<p>Just one of the principles taught in our classroom when a student learns to defend themselves.  Many times innocent people get caught in the middle of dangerous situation because they are not paying attention to surroundings the they allow the Bad Guy get too close them.</p>
<p>One way to avoid harm, is to control the distance between you and danger.</p>
<p>Imagine an aggressive, growling barking dog with a bad attitude that wants to attack you or your loved ones. Pretty scary thought isn&#8217;t it?</p>
<p>Now, imagine that same dog, but this time you are on the other side of a big strong fence that stands between you. In this scenario, you&#8217;re able to control the distance through the barrier protection of the fence. A lot less scary!</p>
<p>This story illustrates some of the simple defensive strategies we teach in our classroom to students of all ages and stages. All taught in a positive, respectful environment that enhances your learning experience and makes the entire process a very enjoyable one.</p>

<p>Imagine starting each happy, excited and grateful.</p>
<p>In order to attract abundance and more of what you want in life, you must first acknowledge and appreciate the abundance of what you already have. </p>
<p>Best selling author, Darren hardy says “If you operate from what you lack, you will continue to produce outcomes to match it.”</p>
<p>In order to turn this around, you must focus more on the abundance you already have in your life. This attitude creates a positive energy force that will attract more of what you appreciate into your life. What you feel on the inside will begin to show on the outside.</p>
<p>A great way to attract more of what you want is to express your gratitude and appreciation for what you already have. Here’s a positive affirmation to use…</p>
<p>“I’m happy, excited and grateful for my health, my family and the many great friends I have.” </p>
<p>The first part…I’m happy excited and grateful…sets the tone for whatever you wish to express your gratitude and appreciation for. In other words, whatever you wish to attract into your life, you must first express your gratitude for already having it.</p>
<p>The Attitude of Gratitude is like a magnetic attraction and energy force.</p>
<p>“Gratitude is what starts the receiving process.” &#8212; Jim Rohn </p>
<h4>Here are some great questions to ask yourself…</h4>
<p>What is great in my life right now? (Ex: family, friends, health, work,<br />
community)</p>
<p>What’s great about me? (Ex: Skills, personality, passion, ambition,<br />
desire, etc…)</p>
<p>Are you feeling blessed and abundant yet? </p>
<p>You should because you are and you need to remind yourself of this so you’ll attract more good into your life. LIKE ATTRACTS LIKE. An abundance state of mind will always bring more positive into your life than focusing on what you lack in life.</p>
<p>“Be thankful for what you have, you’ll end of having more. If you concentrate on what you don’t have, you will never, ever have enough.”</p>

<p>If you expect to win&#8230;you will&#8230;if you expect to lose&#8230;you will. If you expect great things to happen today, it will. If you expect it to be a terrible day, it will.</p>
<p>Law of Expectation says: Whatever you expect, with confidence and belief, becomes your own self fulfilling prophecy.</p>
<p>Said another way, whatever you expect, good or bad, positive or negative, is what you are likely to see come your way. If you expect to be healthy and happy, you are bound to see more health and happiness in your life.</p>
<p>If you expect to be sick and tired, you are likely to be sick and tired.</p>
<p> &#8220;You were born to win, but to be a winner, you must plan to win, prepare to win, and expect to win!&#8221; </br>- Zig Ziglar</p>
<p>Martial Arts training teaches to stay focused on a desired outcome. It also teaches to block out distractions and remain confident and committed to your objectives. If you can practice it on the mats and in training, you can apply to life outside the dojo.</p>
<p>By doing this, you are sending a message to yourself that you are a Champion and that you deserve success. In many ways, you must give yourself regular pep talks and encouragement to see yourself through the obstacles you are likely to encounter.</p>

<h4>S.M.A.R.T. GOAL SETTING </h4>
<p>S.M.A.R.T. Goal-setting is a well known and widely used acronym for setting and getting goals in your life…
<p>S-pecific M-easurable A-ttainable R-ealistic T-ime Dated</p>
<p>Most people avoid setting goals simply because they have never learned how to do it right… others have a fear of failure… some people just procrastinate and never take much action toward a better future.</p>
<p>In the martial arts, we learn very early about the value of goal setting. A simple starting point is to apply the S.M.A.R.T. method of determining your desired objectives. The first step is to set a specific goal that is present, positive and personal:</p>
<p> “I’m a lean, flexible and fit Black Belt Champion.Everyday in everyway…I get better and better.”</p>
<p>For some, this would be a “Truth in Advance” goal or statement. </p>
<p>For others, it is exactly what they are and the way they live their lives. Very few goals are unrealistic, however, some people have unrealistic timelines. You aren’t likely to earn a college degree in six months and you won’t become a Black Belt Champion in that time either.</p>
<p>This is why you work to set S.M.A.R.T. goals for yourself and allow some flexibility in your target dates.Done properly, goal setting leads to goal getting and that is exciting and positive for everyone.</p>

*finish strong &#038; fit. It&#8217;s always best to finish your year on a high.*</p>
<p>*In many ways, how you finish each year has a big influence on how you*<br />
*start your New Year. Plus, it&#8217;s always nice to finish feeling victorious*<br />
*about the way you look, feel and think about yourself.*</p>

<p>Like the previous videos, I&#8217;ll share some simple exercises using nothing but<br />
the padded mats. These drills can also be done on a carpeted surface too.</p>
<p>Today&#8217;s video is educating you on various ways you can use the Black Belt<br />
Pyramid concept in your training. You can use it with one exercise or<br />
multiples.</p>
<p>It&#8217;s another simple series of drills that are part of my own regimen and<br />
they can help you to maintain and improve your flexibility, core<br />
abdominal strength and range of motion. They are also applicable drills for Self Defense purposes.</p>

<p>Most of us like to train hard year round, and push ourselves to higher<br />
levels of skill, conditioning and achievement, in and out of the dojo.</p>
<p>*It’s part of being a successful achiever. Everyone has times that you’re<br />
at a peak …mentally, physically and emotionally.*</p>
<p>Especially as you prepare for, or after you achieve a big goal. Like a rank<br />
promotion, or simply when you’re making strong gains in your progress.</p>
<p>We’d all like to be able to stay at this peak level on a consistent basis.</p>
<p>However, for most people, there will be occasional setbacks or obstacles<br />
that can cause you to level off a bit. At times it may even feel like<br />
you’re slipping backwards, due to injury, illness or obstacles of life.</p>
<p>We call these ebbs and flows the Peaks…Valleys &#038; Plateaus of training.</p>
<p>Injuries, distractions or other setbacks occur that may create temporary<br />
stalls in your progress. The sooner you understand this process, the faster<br />
you’ll get back into a positive and progressive direction.</p>
<p>Plateaus can be used as short term, temporary resting spots. Maybe it’s a<br />
maintenance training period or even a planned and deserved recharge.<br />

<p>The goal is to create as many peak cycle periods as possible, then plan out<br />

<p><strong>Resistance Makes Us Stronger!</strong></p>
<p>Black Belt Champions and Hi-Achievers would never become great without the benefit of resistance. None of the greatest Masters or Sensei’s in the Martial Arts would become as powerful as they have without the benefit of resistance.</p>
<p>Motivational Speaker and Best Selling Author, Zig Ziglar, teaches we should always be grateful for our problems.</p>
<p>The reality is, the challenges we face everyday, really do make us stronger. If everything in life came easy, everyone would be an instant Black Belt.</p>
<p>In the real world, the people that solve the most complex problems, are worth the most value in society. In the Martial Arts, in school, at work, in business, we usually learn the most from the setbacks and challenges that we overcome.</p>
<p>The athlete that takes the easy route, partying all night and skipping  practices, is not likely to be stepping onto the winner’s podium. It’s the Champion that puts in hours of disciplined practice that wins Gold Medals.</p>
<p>Pressure Creates Diamonds….</p>
<p>We all need resistance to become stronger. When it comes to physical strength and conditioning, we need to do push ups, pull ups, lift weights or train with  some form of resistance to become stronger and stronger everyday.</p>
<p>Lack of resistance can actually lead to becoming weaker and losing our competitive edge. We all need resistance to become stronger.</p>
<p>Master KC LaVallee, Master Mare Sgarlata and K.O. Andrello, all started their Martial Arts training when only a very small percentage of their classmates were female. Even though it was mostly guys, that didn’t stop them, it actually motivated them to prove that women could become a powerful force.</p>
<p>“WOW” did they ever. Now you’ll see in most USABBC Dojos, about half of our students are female. P.O.W.}&gt;POWER OF WOMEN!</p>
<p>It’s all in their attitude. They all have a Black Belt Champion’s Attitude of Excellence. Resistance has made them and many others stronger than they would have ever been without it.</p>

<p><strong>Inch by Inch is a Cinch…Yard by Yard is Always hard!</strong></p>
<p>Progress in the Martial Arts is a step by step process. If you always strive for positive progress and move forward one step at a time, you’ll always grow in your journey as a Black Belt Champion.</p>
<p>Some people try to make things happen too fast and they expect too much from themselves. These are the type of students than become easily  frustrated and usually give up on their goals.</p>
<p>This occurs in the Martial Arts and other areas as well.</p>
<p>Inch by Inch is a Cinch…is a reminder that positive and steady progress happens one step at a time. If you keep putting one foot in front of the other, sooner or later, you’ll walk a thousand miles.</p>
<p>Yard by Yard is Always Hard…reminds us that if you jump too high too soon, you may set yourself up for a hard fall down.</p>
<p>Olympic Gold Medal High Jumpers makes progress in inches and not in yards. Little by little, inch by inch, they raise the bar, making steady gains until they begin to break records.</p>
<p>Martial Arts training is very similar, progress is subtle, gradual and steady. If you keep this in mind, you’ll find your training even more enjoyable and your Black Belt Spirit will stay stronger and last longer.</p>
<p>Think progress…not perfection. Always seek improvement in yourself and train to for positive gain and steady progress.</p>
<p>Whether you are seeking improvements in your fitness, your skill or your confidence, take your time and stick to it until you do it.</p>
<p>If your goal is to lose weight, think one pound at a time. If you stick with your plan, you’ll drop 5-10-15 lbs. Inch by inch is a cinch, pound by pound will make you lean and mean.</p>
<p>Most important…Stick to it…Until you do it!</p>

<p>Some workouts are longer and more intense, others are shorter, less intense workouts. My encouragement to you is to make good use of your time, so that you can find pockets of at least 30 minutes per day.</p>
<p>If you&#8217;re serious about your health and fitness, commit to attend class at your dojo 2-3 times per week. If you only make two, then do more on your off days. Some weeks you may only make one class, one is always better than none.</p>

<p>In today&#8217;s e-zine, you&#8217;ll see a link to a FREE VIDEO that I share<br />
with you a few simple exercises that are part of my own training<br />
regimen. If you&#8217;re at all like me, you want to stay healthy and fit,<br />
but you also have other responsibilities and goals in life as well.</p>
<p>The video is only a few minutes long. I encourage you to review<br />
it and add these simple exercises to your daily warm up. They&#8217;re<br />
simple and easy to do, they can be done with a weighted ball or<br />
without. You can do them at the dojo, the gym or at home.</p>
<p>Too many people make excuses for why they can&#8217;t exercise.</p>
<p>Another reason that America is getting fatter everyday.<br />

<p>Maybe we can&#8217;t change the statistics of America, but we change<br />
yours, mine and perhaps those we can influence.</p>

with a 2 year old son, plus running successful dojos in two different<br />
states and mentoring dozens of other Martial Artists, my day is fairly<br />
busy. This requires energy and focus, one of the core philosophies<br />
that I live by everyday is&#8230;</p>
<p>&#8220;Everyday I train is a great day, which is why I train everyday!&#8221;</p>
